Psoriatic arthritis causes joint pain, swelling and stiffness and can affect any joint in the body, including the hip. Hydroxychloroquine is an antimalarial drug that is a relatively safe and well tolerated agent for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. Chloroquine is another antimalarial agent that is also sometimes used. Psoriatic arthritis will also often have nail psoriasis, with little or no involvement of the skin elsewhere. For more detailed information on psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, see our leaflets What is Psoriasis? and What is Psoriatic Arthritis? Although there are no cures for psoriatic arthritis, it can be controlled and go into remission. Psoriatic arthritis shares many symptoms with several other arthritic conditions, such as ankylosing spondylitis, reactive arthritis, and arthritis associated with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. All of these health conditions can cause inflammation in the spine and other joints, and the eyes, skin, mouth, and various organs.

Both drugs may be needed for a complete cure and to prevent the return of infection (relapse). In some cases, you may need to take a different medication (such as primaquine) to kill the malaria parasites living in other body tissues.

Dry eyes, Sjogrens and Plaquenil. DailyStrength I ask this because so far these seem to be the only two confirmed issues that point to Sjogren's and the former started occurring many, many years ago, while the dry eyes about three years ago. Do you think it is the right stage of diagnosis of Sjogren's to take Plaquenil? Even if I do have Sjogren's, I hear I won't be able to cure the cause of.
