    Hi all, just diagnosed with early stage RA. My rheumatologist wants to start me on hydroxychloroquine. However, it's my understanding early aggressive treatment is of utmost importance and I've read that hydroxychloroquine treats the disease but does not stop its progression so I'm not sure if my doctor is aggressive enough. If you’re taking these medications, there are waiting periods following your last dose before you can give blood. Anti-platelet agents affect platelet function, so if you take them you have to wait between two to 14 days to donate platelets. However, you may still be able to donate whole blood. Avoid taking an antacid or Kaopectate kaolin-pectin within 4 hours before or after you take hydroxychloroquine. Some antacids can make it harder for your body to absorb hydroxychloroquine.

    Taking hydroxychloroquine long-term or at high doses may cause irreversible damage to the retina of your eye. Hydroxychloroquine is also an antirheumatic medicine and is used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus.
