My question is for those that have taken Plaquenil/Hydroxychloroquine. How long did it take for it to remove symptoms in your personal experience? I know I've read it can take up to 6 months but what I'm wondering is, do you just wake up one day and find it's kicked in 6 months down the road or more likely, it starts to work slowly over 6 months? Though Plaquenil is generally regarded as safe during pregnancy, it is recommended that effective birth control is used throughout the course of Plaquenil treatment and for up to six months after treatment is stopped. Hi. I take both of these and I take them at the same time. Continue taking the medicine regularly during your stay and for at least 8 weeks after you leave the area. To treat malaria Hydroxychloroquine is usually given for 3 days, starting with one high dose followed by a smaller dose during the next 2 days in a row. Take this medicine for the full prescribed length of time for malaria. Hydroxychloroquine is often prescribed as long-term therapy for many dermatologic indications, and it may have broader benefits e.g. preventing or improving thrombophilia associated with lupus erythematosus, neonatal lupus erythematosus, diabetes in rheumatoid arthritis and other connective tissue diseases, and as adjunctive therapy in some cancers. The long half-life can be attributed to extensive tissue uptake rather than through decreased excretion. Peak plasma levels of hydroxychloroquine were seen in about 3 to 4 hours. Renal clearance in rheumatoid arthritis RA patients taking Plaquenil for at least six months seemed to be similar to that of the single dose studies in volunteers, suggesting that no change occurs with chronic dosing.
