Plaquenil is used to treat or prevent malaria, a disease caused by parasites that enter the body through the bite of a mosquito. Malaria is common in areas such as Africa, South America, and Southern Asia.

Plaquenil and choose one Imuran, Cellcept, MTX are quite often used together. As our bodies are so very different, and lupus acts so differently in everyone, some of us respond to one of these 3 meds better than the others. Plaquenil probably won’t protect you from getting Covid-19, but it should make it less dangerous and shorten the lifespan. I hope that answers some questions. I have decided to take next week off and keep my kids home for the next week. It isn’t worth the risk, and I am lucky to have a job where I am able to take time off and still get paid. Imuran can take a few months to get up to full strength, I have been on this med for a couple of years now. I have been fortunate and not had any side effects from it, except mild nausea to start with. It can make you tired and would be fine to take in the evening, I take mine after dinner.

Plaquenil is also an antirheumatic medicine and is used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus. This medicine is not effective against all strains of malaria.

  5. Plaquenil is a slow-acting drug, meaning that it can take up to 6 months to experience the full benefits of this medication, but it is possible for symptoms to improve in as few as 1 or 2 months. Plaquenil and other antimalarials are the key to controlling lupus long-term, and some lupus patients may be on Plaquenil for the rest of their lives.

The prednisone is a steriod and the plaquenil is a anti malaria drug. The thing with plaquenil for me is that I don't notice much of anything taking it but when I go off then I flare up and then really notice it. I have been taking the plaquinil for about 8 years morning and night and the prednisone off and on. If the Placquenil is not helping you enough, the Imuran may work well, and give you better relief. If you have any side effects you don't like, it can be stopped. Methotrexate is another choice that is often tried in addition to Placquenil, so there are options if the Imuran doesn't work. Good luck with it. I am also taking Cellcept 2000mg along with Plaquenil 400mg and bextra 20mg, prednisone 10mg, DHEA 50mg and Synthroid.5mg. I have been on the Cellept about 2 months and I can't really tell any difference, except now I have nauseau.
