Jan 31, 2019 Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as hydroxychloroquine, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Giving trametinib together with hydroxychloroquine may work better in treating patients with pancreatic cancer. Trametinib and Hydroxychloroquine in Treating Patients with Pancreatic Cancer THREAD University of Utah / Novartis Pharmaceuticals Identifier NCT03825289 Trametinib PubChem CID 11707110 Huntsman Cancer Institute, University of Utah Photo National Cancer Institute Investigators at the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah are conducting a Phase I clinical. Kinsey discovered through experimentation that the use of two pills — trametinib plus hydroxychloroquine — that are already available from two different classes of drugs, could potentially impact the process of abnormal cell division and growth caused by a genetic mutation that leads to pancreatic cancer, and increase a patient's lifespan.

Taking hydroxychloroquine long-term or at high doses may cause irreversible damage to the retina of your eye. Hydroxychloroquine is also an antirheumatic medicine and is used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus.

Giving trametinib together with hydroxychloroquine may work better in treating patients with pancreatic cancer. This phase I / II trial studies the side effects and best dose of hydroxychloroquine when given together with dabrafenib and trametinib and to see how well they work in treating patients with stage IV melanoma that has spread to other places in the body. Sometimes when dabrafenib and trametinib are given, the tumor cells activate a stress response called autophagy. Autophagy provides resistance to dabrafenib and trametinib treatment over time making them less effective. Giving hydroxychloroquine with dabrafenib and trametinib may reduce drug resistance and allow more tumor cells to be killed.

Let me tell you what weaning down from Plaquenil is like. I have been on the plaquenil 200 mgm for about 4 months now. I did stop it for 2 weeks early in the treatment due to having to take a coupld other drugs that seemed to give me side effects. I just quit the plaquenil to give my liver a rest at that time. Noticed nothing different. Plaquenil isn a antiparasitic drug with anti-inflammatory affect.
