Dear dcctor There are many doctors who claim that many drugs don’t cause hair loss, but yet there are many patients who take medications that end up with hair loss, and when they go off of the medication, hair loss subsides. I was told Accutane doesn’t cause hair loss 10 years ago, and now it’s listed as a side effect. Side effects of Plaquenil and Humira that are similar include headache or stomach pain or cramps. Side effects of Plaquenil that are different from Humira include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, weight loss, diarrhea, dizziness, spinning sensation, ringing in your ears, mood changes, nervousness, irritability, skin rash, itching, or hair loss. Good to hear from you. Yes, I have a little experience with placquenil and a lot of experience with hair loss and, happy to say, hair regrowth. Placquenil. You probably know this but it's an antimalarial and they don't know why it works on lupus, but it does help with skin and joint problems, so they use it.

Humor has been one of the things that has consistently been helpful, and is incorporated fairly regularly into the posts. The purpose of the blog is to help others live healthier, happier lives by sharing what has helped/ not helped in Carla's 20 years of having lupus (SLE).

  3. Hair loss is a frequently caused side effect of drugs but hair color is another adverse effect that is rare but bothersome. Black or brown hair changing to blond, greying or reddening of hair, and darkening of originally grey hair have been reported in many cases.

Hair loss is found among people who take Plaquenil, especially for people who are female, 50-59 old, have been taking the drug for 1 - 6 months, also take medication Enbrel, and have Psoriatic arthropathy Interesting! I had been losing weight fairly rapidly and without trying before starting on Plaquenil - and it stopped after a few weeks of taking it, as did the alarming hair loss. I had no idea Plaquenil could be a weight gain culprit. I've been on Plaq for 4 years now, and weight gain is a problem. Since hair loss due to methotrexate can be minor, you may decide to remain on the medication and live with thinning or shedding. This is an option, especially if your hair loss isn’t noticeable.
